William “MJ” Hill

I earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science at Mississippi State, then spent seven years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. My work there included secure software for federal and international partners. I later built developer infrastructure at New Relic and streaming data systems at Meroxa, where I was promoted to Staff Software Engineer.

My recent work is closer to the customer. At Zocdoc, I worked on healthcare data and interoperability. Through /dev/color and MJ Hill Digital, I have led discovery, prototypes, and production delivery with institutions, conference teams, researchers, and founders.

I developed the 34-document curriculum for RenderATL University and taught its three workshops on specs, custom AI workflows, and coding-agent guardrails. The series drew 164 registrations. I have also taught at the University of the Virgin Islands, Hackbright Academy, iSTEAM, ModelExpand, the Hidden Genius Project, Black Girls Code, and the Kapor Center.

Education has been part of my work for more than a decade. I founded the Sherry Hill Academic Achievement Scholarship for minority engineering students at Mississippi State, where I was inducted into the Bagley College of Engineering Student Hall of Fame.

Engineering, speaking, and consulting use the same source material: systems I have built, failures I have debugged, and decisions I can explain. My talks cover agent coordination, LLM evaluation, regulated deployments, data infrastructure, and engineering careers. Consulting gives me current delivery work to test those ideas against.

Photography and modeling sharpen a different part of the practice: how a technical idea is framed, presented, and remembered. I have worked in editorial and commercial modeling, photographed portraits and events, and hosted technical livestreams and broadcast segments.
